Associate Professor Omar Kujan received his PhD from the University of Manchester, School of Dentistry, in 2006. His career began as a Clinical Research Fellow where he developed an innovative oral cytobrush. Subsequently, he trained in the Oral Pathology Department at Guy's Hospital, King's College of London. In 2016, he joined the Oral Health Centre at the University of Western Australia (UWA) as a lead in oral pathology. Dr. Kujan possesses extensive qualifications, being a registered specialist in oral maxillofacial pathology and a fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists in both the UK and Australasia. His research focuses on oral cancer screening, the molecular pathology of oral carcinogenesis, and biomarkers for predicting the progression of oral potentially malignant disorders. Dr. Kujan has significantly contributed to the development of updated classifications for oral potentially malignant disorders and currently leads the Oral Maxillofacial Biology Diseases Research Stream at UWA Dental School. He plays an active role in teaching and supervising postgraduate students and is also an associate editor for several prestigious journals. Additionally, he is involved in multiple research activities and projects, consistently demonstrating a strong track record in acquiring research funding and publishing high-impact papers.
