Biography

Omar Ortiz is a Senior Lecturer at the Singapore University of Technology and Design, specializing in Pure Mathematics and Pedagogy. He earned his Bachelor of Mathematics degree from Universidad Central de Venezuela in 2009 and completed his Ph.D. in Science at the University of Melbourne in 2013 under the supervision of Arun Ram and Craig Westerland. Before joining SUTD, he worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow and Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Western Ontario, where he contributed significantly to undergraduate mathematics education. His research interests include representation theory and pedagogy in mathematics. Ortiz has also previously worked on topics such as algebraic combinatorics and homotopy theory linked to Schubert calculus. He is involved in innovative projects that aim to enhance student assessment and learning experiences through gamification and technology, including the development of educational applications utilizing virtual reality for calculus education.
