Biography

Omeasoo Wahpasiw is an Assistant Professor cross-appointed at Carleton University's School of Indigenous and Canadian Studies and the School of Architecture and Urbanism. Wahpasiw holds a B.A. and M.A. in History from the University of Saskatchewan and Ottawa, respectively, and earned a Ph.D. in Indigenous History from the University of Saskatchewan. Her dissertation, titled 'Tla’amin Housing, Architecture Home Territories 20th Century: Invisible spaces Shaping Historical Indigenous Education,' explores the ways Indigenous peoples maintained their cultural spatial heritage within architectural contexts influenced by colonial paradigms. Additionally, she co-authored the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations Women’s Commission submission to the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, particularly focusing on 2SLGBTQQIA+ individuals. Prior to her appointment at Carleton, Wahpasiw taught a suite of courses on Indigenous culture and values at the University of Prince Edward Island, addressing topics such as the legacy of residential schools.
