Biography

Professor Onita Basu specializes in Environmental Engineering and serves as the Associate Vice Provost for Graduate Studies at Carleton University. She completed her B.A.Sc. and M.A.Sc. at the University of British Columbia, and her Ph.D. at the University of Waterloo. Her research focuses on the impacts of wastewater treatment processes on integrated systems and dynamic systems. Professor Basu's studies include advanced filtration and membrane-bioreactor systems specifically addressing the treatment of high ammonia loadings and analyzing plant performance for biological versus physical removal of recalcitrant organics, personal care products, and pharmaceuticals found in wastewater. She is also involved in supervising graduate research students and has extensive experience teaching various courses related to Environmental Engineering, including Water Treatment Principles and Design, Municipal Engineering, and Environmental Planning Impact Assessment.
