Dr. Onyema Ogbuagu

Biography

Professor Onyema Ogbuagu is a distinguished member of the Yale School of Medicine, specializing in Infectious Diseases and Pharmacology. He serves as the Director of the Yale Antivirals Vaccines Research Program and has extensive experience in training medical professionals in both the United States and internationally, particularly in Rwanda and Liberia. His clinical responsibilities include educating medical students and residents, as well as mentoring junior faculty in high-impact research related to HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases. Dr. Ogbuagu's research focuses on improving care and health outcomes for individuals at risk for HIV/AIDS, spearheading numerous clinical trials investigating antiviral therapeutics and vaccines, including significant work on COVID-19 treatment and prevention. He has been recognized for his contributions to medical education and has received various awards including the Innovator Award from the HIV Medical Association. His commitment to global health is evident through his leadership in residency training programs aimed at building clinical research capacity in resource-limited settings. Beyond his administrative and educational roles, Dr. Ogbuagu actively contributes to research addressing antimicrobial resistance and participates in international collaborations to develop innovative solutions in infectious diseases.
