Dr. Ordan Lehmann

Biography

Ordan Lehmann is a professor in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta, specializing in Ophthalmology and Medical Genetics. His clinical interests focus on managing patients with glaucoma and inherited diseases, while his research investigates the molecular mechanisms underlying ocular neurogenetic disorders. Over the past 15 years, his laboratory has utilized pediatric ocular disorders as entry points to identify critical molecular pathways implicated in a broader spectrum of human diseases. Notable examples of his work include studies on coloboma and the identification of causative genes related to various pediatric disorders. Dr. Lehmann also leads the Alberta Vision Net, a network that fosters interdisciplinary research and collaboration among multiple departments and universities in Alberta aimed at advancing the understanding and treatment of ophthalmic diseases. His research is supported by funding from notable institutions including the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and Alberta Innovates, with a focus on integrating skill sets from gene therapy, drug design, clinical ophthalmology, and molecular biology to develop effective treatments for complex clinical conditions.
