Biography

Ori Heffetz is a data-based economist who uses lab and field survey experiments to study the psychological, social, and cultural aspects of economic behavior and well-being. His work investigates how we can learn economic well-being indicators—such as household expenditures, unemployment rates, and self-reported happiness—and the ways governments can utilize this data to guide policy decisions. For instance, he studies how people interpret and respond to survey questions, which affects the resulting data. Heffetz holds a BA in Physics and Philosophy from Tel Aviv University and a PhD in Economics from Princeton University. He is a co-author of the widely used 'Principles of Economics' textbook and has created an award-winning macroeconomics course that introduces the basic concepts and tools of economic theory as they apply to current news and global events. In addition to his academic research and teaching, he advises governmental and non-governmental institutions and writes and speaks on economic issues.
