Dr. Ori Tamir

Biography

Ori Tamir is a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Sociology at the University of Michigan. He earned his Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of California, Davis in 2024. His dissertation is titled 'Relational Theory of Globalization.' Tamir's research examines the intellectual and political origins of globalization in the context of American foreign policy, paying particular attention to its political, economic, and expert dimensions. His work draws on sociology, history, international relations, and political economy, highlighting how U.S. policymakers conceived and managed globalization in the late twentieth century. He is currently developing articles on topics such as 'Managing Interdependence,' which traces the political and intellectual roots of globalization among American foreign policymakers, and 'Domestication of American Monetary Policy,' which explores how the Federal Reserve withdrew from managing the international monetary system.
