Biography

Sweden-born Örjan Sandred founded the Desautels Faculty of Music's Studio FLAT, a studio focused on computer music research and production at the University of Manitoba. He teaches composition, computer-assisted composition, and electro-acoustic music. His music has been performed worldwide, with recent highlights including the premiere of "Konzert für Konzerthaus" for the Wave Field Synthesis loudspeaker system at Detmold concert hall in Germany, and a portrait concert in Uppsala, Sweden. Sandred has been a featured resident composer at the SALT New Music Festival in Victoria, Canada, and had works premiered by the German ensemble Klangforum Heidelberg during their 2018 Canadian tour. Since 2020, he has released an album titled "Sonic Trails". His ongoing research includes composing music with Canadian performers and live electronics, and he has received international commissions from the Swedish Concert Institute and Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. Notable works include the series of pieces for various instruments and electronics, as well as larger compositions like "Lament Humanity" for symphony orchestra and a concerto for Yamaha Wind Controller. Currently, he is working on a commission involving pipe organ and live electronics.
