Biography

Orla Lynskey joined University College London (UCL) Laws as Chair in Law and Technology in September 2024. She currently holds a Visiting Professorship at the College of Europe in Bruges since 2020 and was previously an Associate Professor at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) Law School from 2012 to 2024. Her research focuses on the role of law in shaping society's relationship with technology, with a particular interest in data protection and data governance. Her scholarship has been published in leading law journals including Current Legal Problems, International Comparative Law Quarterly, Common Market Law Review, and Iowa Law Review. Additionally, she authored the monograph titled "Foundations of EU Data Protection Law" (Oxford University Press, 2015), which continues to influence data protection law scholarship. Orla has also taken maternity leave during the periods of 2017-2018 and 2021-2024.
