Biography

Ornissa Naidoo is a registered Occupational Therapist with 20 years of academic experience. She has strong clinical experience across various settings, including hospitals and schools. Ornissa completed her research Masters focusing on Obstetric Brachial Plexus Palsy in children, investigating perceptual and physical skills. Additionally, she has researched the role of occupational therapy in managing low back pain in emergency departments while comparing results from the Mini Mental Status Examination and Allan’s Cognitive Levels. Currently, she is leading an international research project on the Kawa Model, an occupational therapy framework that uses a river metaphor to represent life, aiming to deepen the understanding of this model among occupational therapy students and communities. Ornissa is also managing a Kindergarten play-based prewriting skills program in Primary Schools in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Her research interests span student learning, evidence-based practice, pre-writing skills, and falls prevention. She is an active member of the Occupational Therapy Australia Association and the World Federation of Occupational Therapists, and holds associate membership in Indigenous Allied Health Australia. Ornissa is registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
