Biography

Osama Sefein has a unique blend of medical training and experience. He graduated from Cairo University Medical School and commenced residency training in Cardiology and Critical Care in Egypt. After graduation, he practiced as a cardiologist and intensive care specialist in Saudi Arabia, focusing on perioperative management of adult patients undergoing cardiac surgery. In Canada, he furthered his training as a clinical fellow in the Critical Care Unit (Cardiac Surgery Unit) at University Hospital, LHSC for several years. He subsequently switched specialties to anesthesia, completing his residency and a fellowship in cardiac anesthesia at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry. He obtained the Advanced Perioperative TEE Diploma from the National Board of Echocardiography. In August 2021, he was appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesia & Perioperative Medicine, with a cross-appointment in the Department of Medicine, Division of Critical Care. Osama has a strong passion for education and teaching and was recognized for this by being appointed Program Director for the Anesthesia Fellowship and Medical Education for the Cardiac Surgery Recovery Unit.
