Oscar Aparicio is a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Southern California. His research focuses on the mechanisms of cell cycle checkpoint regulation and chromosomal DNA replication using the model organism Saccharomyces cerevisiae, commonly known as Baker’s yeast. His lab employs a variety of approaches, including cell biological, molecular, biochemical, genetic, and genomic techniques, to explore the dynamics of genomic structures and the roles of specific proteins in these processes. Over his career, Aparicio has contributed significantly to the understanding of DNA replication origins and the regulation of chromatin structure. He completed his PhD in Molecular Genetics & Cell Biology at the University of Chicago and holds a BS in Microbiology from the University of Florida. In addition to his teaching and research duties, he has served as Section Head and has participated in various administrative roles within USC. His extensive experience is complemented by his previous postdoctoral research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
