Biography

Oscar Björkenfeldt is a Postdoctoral Researcher in Sociology at the University of Gothenburg. He earned his PhD in 2024 from the Department of Sociology of Law at Lund University, focusing on the online harassment of journalists and the socio-legal implications for Swedish journalism. His dissertation highlights the challenges posed to press freedom by systematic distrust in traditional journalism, wherein the growing incidents of harassment, threats, and hate are prevalent. In his ongoing research, he investigates the Swedish Police Authority's engagement with camera surveillance, analyzing how these technologies are integrated into their everyday practices ethically and practically. This work is part of a broader project addressing the intersection of camera surveillance and artificial intelligence in criminal investigations.
