Biography

Professor Oscar P. Bruno specializes in Applied Computational Mathematics. He received his Licentiate from the University of Buenos Aires in 1982 and earned a Ph.D. from New York University (Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences) in 1989. He joined the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) as an Associate Professor in 1995 and was promoted to Professor in 1998. Throughout his academic career, he held the position of Executive Officer for Applied Mathematics from 1998 to 2000. His research encompasses the development of advanced numerical solvers for partial differential equations (PDE), focusing on diverse applications in computational electromagnetics, computational fluid dynamics, and computational solid mechanics. Prof. Bruno's work includes addressing critical challenges in PDE theory, numerical analysis, and computational science, particularly in modeling complex geometries and solving singularities. He is known for his innovative techniques, such as Fourier Continuation, which have paved the way for accurate solutions to previously intractable PDE problems, fundamental to science and engineering.
