Professor Dr. Oscar Cásares

Biography

Oscar Cásares is the Susan Taylor McDaniel Regents Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Texas at Austin. He earned his M.F.A. from the University of Iowa in 2001 and has notably published works in fiction and nonfiction, including short stories and personal essays. His book collection, 'Brownsville,' was recognized as a Notable Book by the American Library Association in 2004 and is included in various university curriculums across the country. His novel 'Amigoland' received a starred review from Publisher's Weekly, highlighting it as a winning story. Cásares has received fellowships from prestigious organizations such as the National Endowment for the Arts, the Copernicus Society of America, the Guggenheim Foundation, and the Texas Institute of Letters. He teaches courses in creative writing, sharing his passion for storytelling through workshops focused on fiction, short stories, and personal essays.
