Biography

Oscar Mitchell, MD MSCE is an Assistant Professor in Clinical Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, specializing in Pulmonary Critical Care Medicine. He serves as the Associate Director of the Center for Resuscitation Science and the Director of the Critical Care Outreach Procedure Service and the Medical Rapid Response Team at the hospital. His research interests focus on improving care for patients requiring resuscitation both in the intensive care unit and general hospital wards, with a particular emphasis on optimizing the delivery of high-acuity care for individuals experiencing cardiac arrest, respiratory failure, and various forms of shock. He has explored a range of topics including rapid response systems, in-hospital cardiac arrest, and efforts to establish clear, data-driven definitions for clinical decompensation. His work encompasses studies on delays in rapid response activation and outcomes in critical situations such as in-hospital cardiac arrest and hemorrhagic shock.
