Osman Khan is an artist interested in using technology to construct artifacts that experience social criticism and aesthetic expression. His work explores themes that see technology fabricating and subverting the understanding of identity, communication, and public space through interactive installations and site-specific interventions. Born in Pakistan and raised in New York City, Khan served as the Creative Director at Elliance, a web development company, starting in 2002. Before joining the faculty of the School of Art & Design at the University of Michigan in 2009, he was a Visiting Assistant Professor at the School of Art at Carnegie Mellon University. Khan’s work has been showcased in notable exhibitions, including the Shanghai Biennale, ZeroOne Festival in San Jose, and venues across the United States and Europe such as the L.A. Louver in Los Angeles and Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art in Rotterdam. He has received the Art Matters grant and Ars Electronica’s Prix Ars Award Distinction, as well as participated in the Arctic Circle 2009 Residency. His articles have appeared in prominent publications like Artforum, Artweek, and the Wall Street Journal.
