Biography

Özgür Şahan is a Senior Teaching Fellow in the Department of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics at the University of Southampton. He joined the university in 2022 and has over 13 years of experience teaching English for academic purposes courses in applied linguistics and English Language Teaching (ELT) in higher education institutions in Turkey. His research primarily focuses on language performance assessment, English medium instruction, and teacher education. He leads the MA ELT/TESOL Studies program, aiming to consolidate theory and practice in English language teaching. His work has been published in reputable journals such as Language Testing, Teaching in Higher Education, and Linguistics Education. Özgür is particularly interested in receiving PhD applications on topics related to language performance assessment, language writing, and English medium instruction. He has been involved in various research projects, including Completed projects Impact Rater Experience and Essay Quality Rater Behavior Scoring. In addition to his academic responsibilities, he convenes modules related to research skills and language writing.
