Biography

Professor P. Ramachandran's research focuses on organic chemistry, particularly in reaction methodologies, catalyzed reactions, and medicinal chemistry. His work is rooted in organometallic chemistry, especially with organoborane and titanium-catalysis. He leads the PVR Research Group, exploring the development of potent antibiotics to treat bacteria designated as urgent threats by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), including Clostridioides difficile, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, and MRSA. Ramachandran has advanced a lead molecule, AAMLA-4, for the treatment of C. diff. infections, which is currently in pre-clinical trials. He co-founded Arta Therapeutics, Inc., which focuses on translational research for AAMLA-4 and supports research on pancreatic cancer. His collaborative projects with other faculty members span various fields, including biochemistry and materials chemistry, with a focus on novel applications such as new battery technology and energetic materials. He is an active member of multiple interdisciplinary centers at Purdue and contributes to fostering academic collaborations.
