Biography

P. Vaidyanathan is a Kiyo Eiko Tomiyasu Professor of Electrical Engineering at the California Institute of Technology. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Calcutta in 1974, followed by a Bachelor of Technology in 1977 and a Master of Technology in 1979. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 1982. He began his academic career at Caltech as an Assistant Professor in 1983, was promoted to Associate Professor in 1988, became a full Professor in 1993, and was appointed as the Tomiyasu Professor in 2018. Throughout his career, Dr. Vaidyanathan has been engaged in theoretical and practical aspects of digital signal processing, focusing on a wide variety of problems including sparse sampling in multiple dimensions, network signal processing, and the application of these methods in digital communications, array processing, and radar signal processing.
