Biography

Pablo Jarillo-Herrero is the Cecil Ida Green Professor of Physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He received his Physics degree from the University of Valencia, Spain, in 1999 and went on to earn an M.Sc. from the University of California, San Diego, followed by a Ph.D. from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands in 2005. After a year postdoctoral fellowship at Delft, he joined Columbia University as a NanoResearch Initiative Fellow. At MIT, he began as an assistant professor in January 2008 and received tenure in 2015, subsequently being promoted to Full Professor in 2018. His work is characterized by groundbreaking research in twistronics, particularly in the areas of superconductivity, magnetic properties, and condensed matter physics. His contributions have earned him numerous accolades, including the Oliver E. Buckley Condensed Matter Physics Prize and the Wolf Prize in Physics. He has also been recognized as a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate Analytics since 2017 and was elected a Fellow of the American Physical Society in 2018. His research interests center on experimental condensed matter physics, including quantum electronic transport in novel two-dimensional materials, and he plays an active role in mentoring the next generation of physicists.
