Biography

Pablo Morales is a UKRI Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Media and Communications at the London School of Economics. He leads a three-year multi-disciplinary research project examining China’s international communication strategy towards Latin America, particularly the implications for journalism and the public sphere in the region. His research interests lie in the impact of globalization on international media flows and journalistic cultures in the Global South. He is especially interested in collaborations with media organizations in the Global South that seek to challenge hegemonic narratives propagated by mainstream media. Pablo holds a PhD in Media Studies from the Communication and Media Research Institute at the University of Westminster, where he conducted research on the reception of international news channels in Hispanic Latin America and the soft power endeavors of China, Russia, and Iran. He obtained a master's degree from Zhejiang University in China and has worked as a journalist and translator for China Radio International and People's Daily Online in Beijing. In recent years, he has contributed to BBC Chinese, Al-Jazeera, and Iran International. Before joining LSE, he was a lecturer in media communication at the University of Leeds and taught at universities in the UK and abroad, including the University of Westminster and the University of the Arts London. His expertise includes globalization, media flows, China, and Latin America.
