Biography

Paddy French received his B.Sc. in Mathematics and M.Sc. in Electronics from Southampton University, UK, in 1981 and 1982, respectively. In 1986, he obtained his Ph.D. from Southampton University, focusing on the study of the piezoresistive effect in polysilicon. He underwent an 18-month postdoctoral research period at Delft University before moving to Japan in 1988, where he spent three years working on automotive sensors at Nissan Motor Company's Central Engineering Laboratories. He returned to Delft University in 1991 as a staff member in the Laboratory for Electronic Instrumentation, and in 1999, he was awarded the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek chair. In June 2002, he became the head of the Electronic Instrumentation Laboratory. He served as editor-in-chief for Sensors and Actuators and acted as general editor for Sensors A&B from 2002 to 2018. In 2019, he shifted to the Bioelectronics Laboratory and became an IEEE Fellow and Fellow of the International Association of Advanced Materials. His research focuses on integrated sensor systems, micromachining, with applications mainly in medical and environmental fields. He has published numerous research articles and contributed to important advancements in sensor technology and biomedical devices.
