Biography

Professor Padmaja Sankaridurg is the Head of the Myopia Program at the Brien Holden Vision Institute and a Conjoint Professor in the School of Optometry and Vision Science at the University of New South Wales. She holds a Bachelor of Optometry from the Elite School of Optometry in Chennai, India, a PhD from the University of New South Wales, and a Master's degree in Intellectual Property from the University of Technology, Australia. Her research focuses on myopia, particularly strategies to slow the development of myopia refractive error. Professor Sankaridurg has been actively involved in global discussions on myopia, serving as an advisory board member for the International Myopia Institute and participating in the WHO-BHVI global meeting on myopia in 2015. She has published 80 articles in peer-reviewed journals, co-invented patents, authored book chapters, and has supervised numerous MSc and PhD students. Her research interests include the onset and progression of myopia, strategies to control myopia, and the economic burden associated with it.
