Biography

Page Chamberlain is a Professor of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Stanford University, with significant contributions to the field of Earth system science. His research primarily focuses on using stable radiogenic isotopes to understand Earth system history, including the interplay between climate, tectonics, and biological surface processes. He has undertaken numerous projects examining terrestrial climate history during periods of past CO2 levels that are similar to current and future projections, as well as investigating the effects of chemical weathering on the Earth's crust in relation to the carbon cycle. His field research spans diverse geographical locations including the Cascades, Rocky Mountains, Sierra Nevada, European Alps, Tibet, Himalaya, and Southern Alps in New Zealand. Chamberlain is affiliated with several institutions and serves on editorial boards, contributing to journals such as the American Journal of Science. He has also held various academic appointments, including serving as department chair and co-director of the Stanford Stable Isotope Biogeochemistry Laboratory. He teaches courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels related to isotope biogeochemistry and Earth system history, emphasizing the relationships among climatic changes, surface processes, and tectonic activities.
