Biography

Pallab Goswami is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Northwestern University. He obtained his PhD from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2008. His research focuses on condensed matter physics, specifically on the study of emergent low temperature phases and correlated disordered materials. Goswami aims to achieve a comprehensive understanding of strongly correlated materials by utilizing a combination of analytical and numerical methods. His interests include developing theoretical tools to address emerging quantum phases and quantum phase transitions in strongly correlated disordered systems. He places particular emphasis on the underlying topological properties of these materials. Recent advancements in quantum material science have motivated his work, allowing the exploration of the interplay between strong electronic interactions and spin-orbit coupling in iridium-based oxides and Heusler heavy fermion compounds. His work often involves analyzing phase diagrams that exhibit a confluence of competing orders and topological properties as well as exotic quantum critical phenomena. He enjoys tackling abstract theoretical problems and engaging in close collaborations with experimental groups.
