Palwasha Baryalai is a PhD student in the Sun Nyunt Wai group at Umeå University. Her research focuses on understanding the role of outer membrane vesicle-associated proteases in bacterial pathogenesis. She completed her master's studies in Biomedicine at Skövde University, where she pursued her master's thesis project at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, concentrating on mitochondrial proteins involved in the regulation of mitochondrial dynamics. With a strong interest in microbiology, she began her PhD in Sun's group, where she works on the molecular mechanisms involved in cell association and the uptake of bacterial outer membrane vesicles (BMVs). Her long-term aim is to investigate the effects of BMV-associated proteases and their role in regulating mammalian cell mitochondrial dynamics. Outside of her research, she has worked as a teacher at academic institutes in Pakistan and has studied special needs education at Malmö University, which has equipped her for roles as an educator. In her leisure time, Palwasha enjoys activities such as interior decorating, crafting, and dress designing.
