Biography

Pamela Banting is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at the University of Calgary. She has a diverse academic background including a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Philosophy, a Certificate in Secondary Education, a Master’s degree in English, and a PhD in English. Banting's primary research interests focus on Environmental Literature, Nature Writing, Eco-Theory, Ecocriticism, and Petrocultural Studies. Over her twenty-year tenure, she has engaged significantly with North American, particularly Canadian, nature writing and environmental literature and served on the Executive Council of the Association for the Study of Literature and the Environment (ASLE). As a principal organizer, she helped establish the Association for Literature, Environment, and Culture in Canada (ALECC). In her work, Banting explores themes related to the Anthropocene, climate change, and the intersections of literature and environmental activism. She teaches various courses which engage with these complex topics, aiming to foster a deeper understanding of the relationship between literature, ecology, and society.
