Biography

Pamela Colombo is a Professor in the Department of Sociology at Université Laval. She holds a Doctorate in Sociology from the University of the Basque Country and has worked as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie researcher at École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris, France. Her research focuses on the links between the state, counterinsurgency policies, and development programs. In recent years, she has explored case studies of counterinsurgency struggles in Latin America, particularly the construction of 'strategic villages' during the 1970s and 1980s. Colombo has published a book titled Espacios de Desparición. Vivir e imaginar los lugares de la violencia estatal (Tucumán, 1975-1983) in 2017 and co-edited a publication entitled Space Memories Violence. Landscapes Erasure, Disappearance Exception in 2014. Her research interests include military dictatorships, genocide, mass violence, military counterinsurgency programs, and state violence in media.
