Dr. Pamela Palasanthiran

Biography

Professor Pamela Palasanthiran is a paediatric infectious diseases specialist and Joint Head of the Department of Immunology Infectious Diseases at the Sydney Children's Hospital Network, Randwick. She graduated from the University of Melbourne and completed her paediatrics training at the Royal Children's Hospital in Parkville and the Prince of Wales Children's Hospital in Randwick. She undertook specialist training in Infectious Diseases at Duke University Medical Centre in Durham, North Carolina. With over three decades of experience, she has served as a specialist consultant in paediatric communicable diseases and has played a vital role in infection prevention, control, and antimicrobial stewardship. Professor Palasanthiran is primarily a clinician, actively engaged in educating undergraduate and postgraduate medical students and health professionals. Her research interests include perinatal infections, particularly congenital CMV, paediatric HIV, acute bacterial meningitis, and influenza. She supervises students involved in various aspects of these research areas and contributes to guideline development and research in paediatric infectious diseases.
