Biography

Pamela Zabala Ortiz is an Assistant Professor of Sociology with research interests focused on race and ethnicity, migration, identity formation, and Latinx communities in the United States. Her work investigates Afro-Latinidad and examines questions of race and racism within Latinx spaces, as well as the constructions and contestations of Blackness in both the United States and Latin America. Pamela's research has been supported by organizations such as the Social Science Research Council and the Russell Sage Foundation. She completed her PhD at Duke University in 2024.
