Pankaj K. Das is a faculty member at the Jacobs School of Engineering since July 1999 and is also a Professor Emeritus at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. With over 35 years in university settings, Professor Das has led research in various significant fields of electrical engineering, including acousto-optics, opto-electronics, spread-spectrum communications, and oversampling in analog-to-digital converters. His research focuses on developing non-destructive acousto-electronic sensors for detecting flaws in structural walls and investigating spread-spectrum devices that transmit low-power radio waves appearing noise-like to conceal initial narrow-band signals. This research also addresses the security of ship-bound wireless networks for the U.S. Navy through new encoding algorithms. Throughout his career, he has managed 40 research contracts with government agencies such as the Office of Naval Research and the National Science Foundation, and has authored textbooks in lasers and optical engineering.
