Paola Bardetti is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at NYU Tandon School of Engineering. She received her Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences and a Master of Science in Molecular Biology from the University of Milan, Italy. Bardetti began her research career at Bayer, a pharmaceutical company, before pursuing her Ph.D. in Genomics and Systems Biology at Salamanca, Spain, under the supervision of Dr. Jose Perez-Martin, supported by a Marie Curie Fellowship. Following her Ph.D., she conducted postdoctoral research in the Biology Department at New York University, working in the laboratory of Professor Enrique Rojas. Her research focuses on the molecular mechanisms that underpin cell cycle regulation and the morphological responses of plants to pathogen fungi. Specifically, Bardetti investigates the molecular pathways that transmit environmental signals, such as pheromones, to the nucleus, affecting cell cycle arrest and morphological switches. In her postdoctoral work, she explored the mechanical aspects of cell shape, emphasizing the structure and synthesis of bacterial cell walls, which are crucial for controlling bacterial growth and shape.
