Dr. Paola Giuliano

Biography

Paola Giuliano is a Professor of Economics at UCLA Anderson School of Management and holds the Chauncey J. Medberry Chair in Management. In 2025, she was appointed as Faculty Vice Chair for Academic Personnel. She is a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research in Cambridge, a research affiliate at the Centre for Economic Policy Research in London, and a research fellow at the Institute for the Study of Labor in Bonn. Giuliano's research primarily focuses on culture economics and political economy. She holds a B.A. in Economics, summa cum laude, from Bocconi University in Milan and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley, awarded in 2003. Her influential work earned her the Young Economist Award from the European Economic Association in 2004. At UCLA, she teaches graduate courses in Global Macroeconomics and Managerial Economics, while her research has been featured in prominent publications including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post.
