Biography

Paolo’s commitment to Classical Studies has taken him from his native Southern Italy to Europe and North America. He obtained his PhD in the department of Classics at the University of Pennsylvania, with a dissertation focused on Augustine and Plotinus. His main research interests include ancient philosophy, specifically the works of Plato and Plotinus, as well as Patristics. Currently, he is working on a commentary on Plotinus’ treatises. Paolo also studies the influence of Platonism and Augustinism on the subsequent Western tradition, exploring the intersection of Platonism with non-Western traditions. Over the past years, he has been studying the works of Sohrawardi, a key representative of Persian Platonism, and examining the relation between monism in Plotinus’ philosophy and the Upanishads. In addition to his philosophical interests, Paolo has a deep fascination with architecture and painting, with a particular emphasis on the works of Marcello Piacentini, Louis Kahn, Giorgio De Chirico, and Renato Guttuso.
