Biography

Professor Paolo Ferrari is the current Chief Medical Officer at Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale Ticino and serves as a medical consultant in nephrology at Ospedale Civico Lugano. He completed his undergraduate and postgraduate medical training at the University Hospital Berne, where he earned certifications in internal medicine and nephrology, along with a specialist certificate in hypertension from the European Society of Hypertension. In 2003, Professor Ferrari migrated to Australia, where he remained until August 2017. He was the founding director of the Australian Paired Kidney Exchange Program and served as the Director of Kidney Transplantation at Prince Wales Hospital in Sydney. In 2015, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for his contributions to kidney transplantation in Australia. Professor Ferrari was the Past-President of the Australian New Zealand Society of Nephrology and has served as a member of national and international professional committees, including the International Society of Nephrology. He is also an associate editor for several nephrology journals and holds an adjunct professorship at the University of New South Wales. His research focuses on nephrology, chronic kidney disease, and kidney transplantation, with over 180 published scientific papers and an H-index of 46.
