Paolo Ostinelli obtained his doctorate and habilitation in Medieval History at the University of Zurich. He is the author of studies on the history of institutions in the Alpine region, the papal curia, and the Swiss Confederation during the late Middle Ages and the early modern period. He has edited editions of Vatican sources and local archival documents from Ticino. Currently, he serves as an archivist at the State Archives of the Canton of Ticino in Bellinzona and is a full professor of Medieval History, with particular attention to the auxiliary sciences of history, at the University of Zurich. His research interests include the history of community organizations, the social and cultural history of the Alpine area, the Papacy, Roman curia and partibus relations, notarial and papal diplomatics, and documentary editions in both analogical and digital forms.
