Biography

Paolo's research is dedicated to understanding how Earth and other planets formed. He combines experimental, isotopic, spectroscopic, and theoretical approaches to examine the chemical and physical properties of minerals, melts, and gases, shedding light on the evolution of planets from the growth of dust grains into complex bodies. His broad themes include the oxidation state of the mantle, the experimental quantification of non-traditional stable isotope fractionation, and the petrogenesis of ultramafic rocks (such as komatiites and peridotites). Additionally, he studies the structure of redox magmatic liquids, the composition of rocky planets concerning core formation and volatility, and the thermodynamic properties of high-temperature phases. His work extends to exoplanet atmospheres and the astrophysical chemical evolution of protoplanetary disks.
