Biography

Paolo Spada received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Bologna in 2006 and another Ph.D. in Political Science from Yale University in 2012. He was a Fellow at the Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation at the Harvard Kennedy School from 2011 to 2013, and a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Centre for the Study of Democratic Institutions at the University of British Columbia from 2013 to 2015. Between 2015 and 2016, he worked at the University of Southampton, managing and evaluating two parallel Citizens Assemblies. He was involved in the Empatia project at CES University of Coimbra in Portugal and the Scholio project at the University of Westminster in the UK from 2017 to 2018. Subsequently, he taught Public Policy at GSSI while joining the Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of Southampton. He is currently a Lecturer at Southampton and is engaged in research that explores diffusion impact governance and social innovations aimed at deepening democracy. His research employs large surveys, field experiments, and both quantitative and qualitative analyses.
