Biography

Paraskevi Martzavou obtained her BA in History and Archaeology from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Her scholarly journey also includes studies at Hungarian universities in Pecs and Szeged, where she worked as a field archaeologist at sites such as Olynthos and Poteidaia. She holds an advanced graduate qualification (DEA) in Greek epigraphy from École Pratique des Hautes Études in Paris, where she was mentored by Philippe Gauthier. Martzavou received her doctoral degree from the same institution and subsequently held a post-doctoral position at the University of Oxford, funded by a European Research Council project directed by A. Chaniotis, focusing on the social and cultural construction of emotions in the Greek world. Her research interests include Greek history, archaeology, Greek epigraphy, Roman Greece, and the sociology of religious change, with particular attention to the emotional landscapes of Roman Greece. She is engaged in interdisciplinary exploration within her field and actively participates in current developments concerning Roman Greece, contributing to a growth area in Classics. Martzavou has co-edited volumes on Greek epigraphy and is preparing a monograph on the religious history of Roman Greece.
