Dr. Paria Shirani

Biography

Paria Shirani is an Assistant Professor in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Ottawa. She has previously held a position at Toronto Metropolitan University, where she was also an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science. Paria completed her postdoctoral fellowship at Carnegie Mellon University in the USA, focusing on cybersecurity. She holds a Ph.D. in Information Systems Engineering from Concordia University, awarded with the FRQNT Doctoral Scholarship. Her research interests encompass various fields including cybersecurity, code fingerprinting, malware analysis, IoT security, vulnerability research, and threat intelligence generation, particularly in relation to the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning in cybersecurity. Paria is dedicated to creating a research environment that values equity, diversity, and inclusion, and actively seeks motivated candidates with strong academic backgrounds in technical fields such as cybersecurity and machine learning for various funded research positions at the undergraduate, master's, doctoral, and postdoctoral levels.
