Dr. Pascal Engel

Biography

Pascal Engel is an honorary professor of modern and contemporary philosophy at the University of Geneva. He has made significant contributions to the fields of logic, language, and philosophy of mind, with current interests focused on epistemology, particularly issues surrounding belief and epistemic norms. Engel's educational background includes studying at the École Normale Supérieure, the Sorbonne, and UC Berkeley, and he obtained his doctorate from the University of Paris under Jacques Bouveresse. Before joining the University of Geneva in 2006, Engel held academic positions at several institutions including the University of Paris XII, Grenoble, and Caen. He has been a visiting professor at numerous universities across the globe, including in Montreal, Hong Kong, and Oslo. Engel's published works encompass influential titles such as 'The Norm of Truth' and 'Davidson and Philosophy of Language'. His editorial work includes significant contributions to philosophical journals and volumes. Engel has played an active role in various academic societies and has directed the Epistemè group in Geneva, reflecting his engagement with contemporary philosophical discourse.
