Biography

Pascal Etman is an Associate Professor in the Control Systems Technology group at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). His research focuses on system design optimization, where he and his collaborators develop methods and tools for model-based design optimization of complex engineering systems. His scientific contributions include approximation methods for structural optimization, the Augmented Lagrangian Coordination (ALC) method for distributed optimum design, and the Effective Process Time (EPT) method for performance analysis of discrete manufacturing systems. Currently, his research interests encompass design optimization, design structure matrix modeling, and systems engineering modeling concepts, with applications in infrastructure systems, mechatronic systems, and additive manufacturing systems. Pascal has co-authored publications in notable journals, teaching graduate courses on engineering optimization and design structure matrix modeling. His academic journey includes receiving his MSc and PhD in Engineering Mechanics from TU/e and holding visiting positions at various institutions, including Philips Semiconductors and the University of Michigan. He has also guided numerous PhD and master's thesis students, contributing significantly to the academic community.
