Biography

Dr. Pascal Matsakis received his PhD from Paul Sabatier University in Toulouse, France, in 1998. He served as a Teacher-cum-Researcher at the Toulouse Institute of Research in Computer Science from 1997 to 1999. Following this, he held the positions of Visiting Assistant Professor from 1999 to 2000 and Assistant Professor from 2000 to 2002 at the University of Missouri-Columbia in the Department of Computer Engineering and Computer Science. In 2002, Dr. Matsakis joined the School of Computer Science at the University of Guelph, where he is currently a full professor. His research focuses on the design of relative position descriptors and modeling spatial relationships in 2-D and 3-D images. These descriptors and relationships are investigated across various disciplines, including artificial intelligence, cognitive science, linguistics, and geography, and have applications in domains such as human-robot communication, geographic information systems, medical imaging, and scene description.
