Pascal Vermeeren is an Assistant Professor in Theoretical Chemistry at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. His research focuses on understanding the principles that drive and control chemical bonding and reactivity at interfaces and surfaces, utilizing state-of-the-art quantum mechanical simulations. His work is organized around three main themes: Homogeneous and Heterogeneous Catalysis, Single-Atom Heterogeneous Catalysis, and On-Surface Self-Assembly of Supramolecular Polymers. A significant part of his research is dedicated to developing robust models based on Kohn-Sham density functional theory to analyze various chemical processes. Vermeeren obtained his Ph.D. in Theoretical Chemistry from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, where he graduated cum laude. His academic activities include organizing several scientific conferences related to his field and he also actively engages with the Dutch Astrochemistry Network. With a strong foundation in chemical sciences, he contributes to both undergraduate and master's courses in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
