Biography

Pascale Massot is an associate professor at the School of Political Studies at the University of Ottawa and a non-resident Honorary Fellow at the Political Economy Asia Society Policy Institute’s Center China Analysis. She has served as a Senior Advisor in the China Asia offices for Canadian Cabinet ministers, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of International Trade, from 2015 to 2021. Masot is a recognized expert on topics related to global political economy, including China's rise and its impact on the liberal international order, global extractive commodity markets, and Canada-China relations. She authored the book 'China’s Vulnerability Paradox: The World’s Largest Consumer Transformed Global Commodity Markets' published by Oxford University Press in 2024. She has conducted academic research that has been presented in English, French, and Mandarin across various academic and media outlets. Massot earned her Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of British Columbia and holds an M.A. in Asia Pacific Policy Studies from the same university, as well as a B.A. in East Asian Studies and Economics from the Université de Montréal.
