Pascaline Dupas is a development economist focused on understanding the challenges faced by poor households in low-income countries and the root causes of these challenges. Her goal is to identify interventions and policies that can help overcome obstacles to reduce global poverty. Dupas conducts extensive fieldwork, with ongoing research that includes studies of education policy in Ghana, family planning policy in Burkina Faso, and government-subsidized health insurance in India. She joined the Princeton faculty in July 2023 after previously serving as the Kleinheinz Family Professor of International Studies at Stanford University for 12 years, as well as holding faculty positions at Dartmouth College and UCLA. Dupas is co-President of the Bureau for Research and Economic Analysis of Development (BREAD) and a board member affiliate of the Jameel Poverty Action Lab (JPAL). A Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), she received the National Science Foundation CAREER award in 2013 for her outstanding contributions to science and engineering. In 2015, Dupas received the Young French Economist Prize, recognizing her influential work in economics. She is a Fellow of the Econometric Society, a Sloan Fellow, and a Guggenheim Fellow. Born and educated in France, Dupas studied philosophy and economics as an undergraduate at École Normale Supérieure (Ulm) and obtained her PhD in Economics from École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in 2006.
