Biography

Paschalis Kratsios is an Associate Professor in the Biological Sciences Division at the University of Chicago, specializing in Neurobiology. His research focuses on C. elegans genetics, gene regulatory networks, gene regulation, and neuronal development. He employs advanced methodologies, including whole genome sequencing and CRISPR genome editing, to investigate the genetic mechanisms that control motor neuron development and function. His work systematically tests the roles of gene regulatory factors and seeks to uncover the conserved phylogeny of these mechanisms using mouse genetics. Kratsios aims to provide insights that will enhance understanding of motor neuron disorders such as spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). He has published extensively on topics including transcription factors, cis-regulatory elements, and motor circuit development in prestigious journals like iScience and the Journal of Neuroscience. Kratsios obtained his PhD in Developmental Biology from the European Molecular Biology Laboratory and completed his postdoctoral training in Developmental Neurobiology at Columbia University.
