Biography

Patjanaporn "Sang" Chalacheva is an Associate Teaching Professor in the College of Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. She received her Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Southern California. Her research focuses on computational modeling in the fields of cardiovascular autonomic control and sickle cell disease, a genetic blood disorder characterized by painful vaso-occlusive crises due to the sickling of red blood cells. Additionally, she explores sleep-related breathing disorders. She is also a member and communications coordinator of the Cardiopulmonary Systems Technical Committee of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society. In recognition of her work, Chalacheva received the National Science Foundation Fellowship in 2016.
